Hematology Program

The Medical Education department under the leadership of the Director works to ensure that our system of postgraduate medical education is established according to the internationally acceptable criteria and meet all the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).

Program Director Message

Dr. Ayesha Junaid

Residency Program Hematology at SIH offers, best set up for standard laboratory Haematology, transfusion medicine and Bone marrow transplant training all at one campus. In presence of qualified and experienced faculty Haematology training program provides structured and comprehensive learning based on hands on experience with periodic evaluations.  We welcome our residents and expect a committed and fulfilling stay with us. Happy Learning!

The objectives of the program are 'outcome based education' emphasizing “competencies” that the trainee should attain at define periods of training. These competencies should be achieved in areas such as Medical knowledge, Professionalism, Patient care, Communication skills, Procedural skills, Utilization of 'evidence' based resources and its application at the point of care and research methodology."
Our training program recognize that medical education is centered around patient care but also emphasizes that the primary responsibility of postgraduate medical education is to facilitate the next generation of physicians to learn and not simply to fulfill service obligations alone.
We have defined the core knowledge skills and attitude that all must master as: professionalism, lifelong learning, data-driven quality improvement, patient centered focus, compassion, team building and leadership.
Our educational continuum is driven by competency based milestones.
We encourage innovation and development of new models for learning while adhering to valid concepts of adult learning theories.
Our program emphasizes the importance of faculty educators and mentors to physician in training.
We aim to ensure structured, graded increase in responsibility for our Hematologists in training
We are committed to providing a learning environment that promotes the rich diversity of career pathways (clinician educators, clinician scientist, clinician administrators).
We aim to offer experiences and support to pathologists-in-training for independent critical thinking including reflection, self-assessment, and unbiased analysis, critical appraisal of medical literature, scholarship and research.
We value the importance of addressing community needs and balancing these with CPSP requirements. An appropriate ambulatory care exposure would be ensured through weekly tumor board activity & daily exposure to patients at Haem-Oncology clinic.
We recognize that quality patient care and quality resident education are tightly linked and we aim to demonstrate this through monitoring of indicators of health-care for continuous improvement.
